HOW TO DEVELOP TOURISM SUSTAINABLY IN UMNUGOBI PROVINCE OF MONGOLIA DURING THE MINING BOOM?

Umnugobi province is a one of the Mongolian top tourist destination. it receives most of Mongolian international tourists because Gobi desert is famous for its scenic natural features, endemic animals and dinosaur remains. Surprisingly, there are also 2 huge mines of gold, copper and coal named Oyu Tolgoi  and Tavan Tolgoi. More recently the Government decided to use those fields. Therefore, Mongolians faces critical issue. How to develop tourism and mining industry simultaneously in this region? Because Mongolians hope that future economic benefit of tourism is outweigh mining industry.

International Investment Conference Objectives
The main objective of the Conference is to provide discussion platform and assist in medium- and long-term planning and implementation associated with the Government’s intentions to achieve  value-added production at industrial parks through downstream processing of ferrous and non-ferrous metal products. CURRENT SITUATION OF MONGOLIAN MINING INDUSTRY

In Mongolia, mining sector plays key role in industry and for the last few years its output has been drive country’s economy. The sector’s share in the GDP reached 28.2% in 2009.
